Trampoline Tricks

You can perform a variety of trampoline tricks on a backyard or an indoor trampoline. These range from a basic trampoline flip, tricks such as a back flip, front flip or front flip in pike position to crazy trampoline tricks. Before you learn trampoline tricks, however, you should master the basics. Only then can you safely execute the more complicated moves on a trampoline.

Basic trampoline moves include the essential bounce stop. This is critical if you wish to advance to complex movements. Follow this by learning the various tucks, pikes and straddle jumps. For a beginner a simple trampoline trick can combine the newly acquired half turn with a pike jump or a tuck jump into a half turn, straddle jump and a half turn.

Beginner tricks are simpler than trampoline tricks for intermediate gymnasts. While a beginner’s routine includes seat drops, tuck jumps and full turns, pike and tuck jumps as well as straddle jumps and stomach drops, an intermediate’s routine is more complex. It may include quad-twisting flips, full turntables, airplanes, cradles and other complex moves. These twists and turns are not for the average recreational tumbler. These routines are for gymnasts.

Advanced trampoline tricks may include such cool trampoline tricks as airplane, cat twist, swivel hips, cradle, roller and cork screw. As an expert trampolinist, however, you will learn tricks for the trampoline that seem to defy gravity and extend beyond the advanced level. They must be equal to your abilities. Only when you are ready, can you perform such tricks. Never do so without the presence of a spotter.

Trampoline tricks are not something for everyone to perform on their back yard trampoline. Somersaults are not something anyone should perform on such devices. Too many back and neck injuries result from undertaking to do a back flip or somersault without proper training. Even gymnasts with training take great care when executing any so-called trampoline tricks.

Only those who know how to do trampoline tricks safely and at the highest level can perform at the Summer Olympic Games. Only those who prove to excel in this sport through success at the World championships can dare hope to win an Olympic medal. In 2004, at Athens, Yuri Nikitin of the Ukraine won the gold, Alexander Moskalenko of Russia the silver and Henrik Stehlik of Germany the bronze in the individual trampoline male’s event. For the individual women’s trampoline event, the winners were Anna Dogonadze of Germany, gold, Karen Cockburn of Canada, silver and Shanshau of China, bronze.
